Join Multidisciplinary artist Andrew Ondrejcak (B.F.A., performing arts, 2002) for Works & Process, where he will explain the inspiration behind his work, the intense collaborative nature of it and its intended, long-term effects on the artisans with whom he works.

The work of American artist Andrew Ondrejcak www.andrewondrejcak.com is a fusion of theater, opera, film and fashion.

From 2015-2019, he created a series of “landscape plays” in collaboration with artisans through the United Nations’ Ethical Fashion Initiative. What began as a typical process of costume design evolved into a deep collaboration between Ondrejcak and artisans in Mali, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan and Haiti. The result of their work is a stunning, unique, collage-like visual world in which the various artisans' cultures, histories and aesthetics are fused into a complex cast of characters. The first in this series was featured in Vogue Italia. Inspired by the paintings of Pieter Bruegel, Ondrejcak's landscape plays focus on a series of individual figures as they struggle to connect. Despite having different stories and diverse aesthetics, this network of unrelated figures create a portrait of the interconnectivity of all humans, with each individual both the center of the world and part of something they cannot comprehend.
