Growing up in Colombia in the 1990s, Daniel Mejia (B.F.A., film and television, 2016) heard stories of violence and fear everywhere he went. Those same stories fueled Mejia’s desire to pursue a career as a filmmaker and create stories of encouragement for people to hope, dream, and believe in a better future. His short film, The Artist's Awakening, won Best Student Award at the 2017 Beverly Hills Film Festival and was nominated for an award at the Cartagena Film Festival. Mejia has also directed several episodes of the Colombian children's series Dapinty, Una Aventura Musicolor, which was nominated for Best Animated Children's Program at the 2022 International Emmy Awards.
